Starting from Chaudda Morh, approximately 20 km from Manali, the trek lasts about three days, culminating at the breathtaking Bhrigu Lake, which sits at an ambitious height of 14,100 ft. The trek unfolds through untouched forests, expansive meadows, and dramatic mountain ridges, leading to the serene lake.
According to local lore, Maharishi Bhrigu, the son of Brahma, used to meditate near this sacred water body thousands of years ago, adding a layer of mystique to the trek.
Itinerary Highlights
Day 1: Chaudda Morh to Rola Kholi
- The trail weaves through lush green meadows and pristine forests before arriving at Rola Kholi, the advance base camp. This campsite is renowned for its stunning views and starry night skies, making it a paradise for photographers and nature enthusiasts.
Day 2: Rola Kholi to Bhrigu Lake
- The trek continues uphill towards the lake, offering mesmerizing views of the Seven Sisters Peaks, Hanuman Tibba, and Deo Tibba. Each step reveals new vistas, culminating in the stunning beauty of Bhrigu Lake.
Day 3: Return Journey
- Retrace your steps to Gulaba and then back to the starting point, taking time to appreciate the landscapes once more.

One of the lake’s intriguing attributes is its ability to change colors with the seasons. While it can sometimes freeze, locals believe it never completely does, preserving its sacred nature. The surrounding scenery, enhanced by the altitude, creates an ethereal atmosphere, often with clouds drifting at eye level.
Best Time to Visit
The ideal time for the Bhrigu Lake Trek is from mid-May to October, with the sweet spot being before June or after July. The months of June and July are prone to monsoons, increasing the risk of landslides and making the trek less safe. Pleasant weather during the recommended months ensures a smoother experience.
Getting There
By Air: The nearest airport is Bhuntar Airport in Kullu, with regular flights from Delhi. From the airport, you can arrange taxis or buses to reach Manali.
By Train: The closest railway station is Chandigarh. From there, buses and taxis can be easily arranged to Manali.
By Road: For a more adventurous route, consider a road trip. Numerous buses run from Delhi to Manali, and you can also catch a bus from Chandigarh. Upon arrival in Manali, you can hire a private taxi or carpool to Gulaba, the starting point of the trek.
Difficulty Level
The Bhrigu Lake Trek is classified as easy to moderate. However, the high altitude can be demanding, so proper training is essential. Focus on strength and cardiovascular training to prepare for the trek.

Itinerary
- The group will assemble at the pick-up point by 9:00 AM where a briefing session by the trek leader sharing all the necessary details about the trek would be provided. After which, we’ll drive off towards Kulang which is the base camp for the Bhrigu Lake Trek.
- After relaxing for a while, we will start our trek to Moridugh. After walking on flat stretches of land for a while, green meadows and oak forests will start beckoning your closer. Although the trail is a bit steep, it won’t test your endurance much and all along you’ll be surrounded by nature.
- We’ll reach the campsite in 4-5 hours and by then dusk will start to fall. Spend the rest of time at leisure soaking in the beautiful views.
- Dinner followed by overnight stay in camps in Moridugh.

- After early morning breakfast, we’ll start our trek to Bhrigu Lake. Nestled at an altitude of 14,100 ft, the lake is named after Rishi Bhrigu, one of the seven great sages in Hinduism.
- The entire trail consists of green meadows that make you feel as if you’re in the middle of paradise. Once you reach the area nestled close to the lake, the terrain starts to get rocky. Soon the Bhrigu Lake with Deo Tibba peaks, Indraasan, Hanuman Tibba, and Friendship Peak in the backdrop will come into view.
- We’ll spend some time at leisure near Bhrigu Lake, experiencing at the marvels of nature before heading back to Moridugh.
- Spend your night under the starry skies, followed by Dinner and overnight stay in camps.
- Post breakfast, we will check out of our campsite and start trekking down towards Kulang. Traverse through the same trails and relish in the beauty of nature before bidding it goodbye.
- It’d take us around 4-5 hours to reach Kulang and then we’ll drive towards Manali where the group will disband with fond memories.
- End of Bhrigu Lake Trek.
