Spiti Winter Expedition 4×4 – A Christmas & New Year Adventure
Discover the magic of Spiti Valley in winter with this special 4×4 expedition that blends breathtaking snow-covered landscapes, ancient monasteries, and thrilling off-road experiences. For those craving both adventure and serenity, this journey through Spiti’s rugged terrain during the Christmas and New Year season promises a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Journey Begins: Delhi to Shimla Starting from Delhi, we travel through Shimla—a preferred route that offers smooth acclimatization with its gradual ascent and stunning vistas. The first stop is Chitkul, famously known as India’s last inhabited village, where snow-covered landscapes welcome you into the heart of the Himalayas. From here, our route takes us to Kalpa in Kinnaur, a town that is celebrated for its jaw-dropping panoramas, lush apple orchards, and vibrant local culture. Kalpa is also home to two iconic sites: the 3,000-year-old Kalpa Monastery and the dramatic Suicide Point, which offers both breathtaking views and heart-stopping heights.
Snow-Covered Confluences and Peaceful Hamlets From Kalpa, we proceed to the picturesque village of Nako, nestled in the Trans-Himalayan ranges and known for its serene Nako Lake and historic monastery. Along the way, a quick stop at Khab—a snow-laden hamlet where the Sutlej and Spiti rivers meet—provides a unique and unforgettable view. Driving through this landscape of untouched snow and rugged cliffs offers some of the most stunning scenes of the journey.
Exploring Kaza, the Heart of Spiti Our next major stop is Kaza, the commercial and cultural hub of Spiti. Here, the contrast between the brilliant white snow and cobalt-blue skies creates a surreal experience. Highlights include visits to the Key Monastery, the 1,000-ft-high Chicham Bridge—the tallest in Asia—and Komic, the highest motorable village in the world. We’ll also visit Hikkim, home to the world’s highest post office, where you can send postcards to commemorate your journey.
Final Stop: Langza, the Fossil Village The expedition concludes at Langza, a fascinating village with a rich collection of ancient fossils and a towering Buddha statue overlooking the valley. Known as the fossil village, Langza’s high-altitude setting and cultural significance make it the perfect finale to an unforgettable Spiti winter adventure.
Christmas & New Year Celebration Celebrate Christmas and New Year with a festive bonfire, lively music, delicious snacks, and a cake-cutting ceremony. Enjoy this special holiday season surrounded by the serenity of snow-covered Spiti, making memories that will last a lifetime.
